세계에서 가장 오랫동안 공연된 뮤지컬은 바로 영국 작곡가 앤드류 로이드
웨버의 뮤지컬 "캣츠"이다. T. S. 엘리엇의 연작시 "보통 고양이에 대한 주머니
쥐의 지침서 (Old Possum"s Book of Practical Cats)"에 곡을 붙여 만든 작품으로,
영국 런던 북서부의 뉴런던극장에서 1981년부터 20년이 넘는 세월동안 한번도 쉬지 않고 공연되고있다.
런던보다 한 해 뒤진 82년부터 시작했던 뉴욕 브로드웨이에서의 공연은 지난 2000
년말까지 18년 연속공연의 대기록을 세우기도 했다.
